Co-founded in 2016 by two former United States Navy Officers, ThayerMahan is a maritime surveillance solutions provider whose autonomous survey, acoustic, and UXO technologies span the industries of defense & intelligence, subsea infrastructure, endangered marine mammals, and offshore wind. Their “search as a service” motto encapsulates ThayerMahan’s seamless solution model of skilled personnel who oversee device employment, data collection and transmission through commercial satellite, and results interpretation on a 24/7 basis.

Goal

Taiwan’s offshore wind sector is rapidly expanding as part of the island’s Net Zero 2050 initiative, with projected capacity from 5.5 gigawatts by 2025 to 40-55 gigawatts by 2050. The ideal wind speeds of the Taiwan Strait, combined with the island’s open international business policies, have encouraged increasing investment from prominent offshore wind developers.

ThayerMahan appointed Anemone Ventures as their on-the-ground representation for analyzing Taiwan’s offshore wind market, formulating an entry strategy, establishing a partnership dialogue with the region’s key industry players, and bringing business opportunities in the form or RFP (Request for Proposal) for marine survey services.

Results

Traction #1

In under three months, Anemone Ventures established contact with all major offshore wind developers present in Taiwan as well as several major construction contractors, efficiently mapping a robust local network that ThayerMahan could draw upon for future business partnerships and market entry.

Traction #2

Anemone Ventures actively participated in key industry events such as the Taipei Global Offshore Wind Summit and Energy Taiwan 2022, wherein the team formed high-level connections and collected local industry insights on ThayerMahan’s behalf.

In parallel to promoting ThayerMahan’s core offshore wind services, Anemone Ventures continuously identified local industry regulations and news in real time that ensured ThayerMahan’s comprehensive understanding of the market.

Anemone Ventures oversaw the generation of two RFPs (Request for Proposals) as well as two in-depth technical discussions between ThayerMahan executives and interested industry leaders.
