Confronting Equality: Women, Men and Society Conference - September 28th, 2019

Date: Saturday 28th September, 9.30am – 1.15pm

Venue: Taipei European School, Primary Campus – 99 Fuguo Road, Shilin District, Taipei 11158

As the culmination of the British Secondary and High School’s Individuals and Societies Week, Taipei European School will host its first ever conference event exploring issues to do with gender and sexuality.


The activities will include two panel discussions, moderated by TES – BSHS students: 

  • Gender Equality in the Workforce (9.30am – 10.30am)

The first panel will involve people working in international business in Taiwan, joined by Sonya Papps, Head of the British Secondary and High School.

  • Gender Equality in Society (12pm – 1pm)

The second panel will involve three leading academics from the UK and Taiwan, focusing on the cultural practices in Taiwan and around the world which affect gender equality.

  • Workshops (10.45am – 11.45am)

In between the two discussions, participants will be invited to choose and attend one of the below workshop activities:

- ‘Speak your mind – why your opinions matter’ – a session specifically for High School students, facilitated by Revital Shpangental Golan (founder and CEO of Anemone Ventures) and Sonya Papps

- ‘Taiwan Pride’ – a history of the Pride movement in Taiwan, led by volunteers from the Tongzhi Hotline Association

- ‘Mango Meter’ – a session about the feminist film review app, led by Professor Yi-Chien Chen from Shih Hsin University

- ‘Do you see what I feel?’ – a practical session using role-play to explore the world of difference, led by Pamela Schmunk, Head of Drama in the British Secondary High School (TES)
