Microsoft plans AI R&D Center in Taiwan

Microsoft announced the launch of an artificial intelligence (AI) research and development (R&D) center in Taiwan. The company’s aim is to hire and train more than 200 researchers in the next five years to boost the nation’s AI industry.

Taiwan’s leading position in the global manufacturing industry, the government's support as well as the pool of well-educated mathematicians, engineers and scientists prompted Microsoft to launch the project in Taiwan. The R&D center will focus on developing industry-specific applications such as AI-augmented keyboard application SwiftKey and Audience Intent Recognition.

Microsoft will start a campus recruitment tour in between March and April and plans to invest NT$1 billion (US$ 33.78 million) in the first two years.
