Taiwan Earmarks US$50m to Boost 5G Development

The Taiwanese government announced on September 22nd that 50 million US dollars will be invested in the development of fifth-generation (5G) technology, given that Taiwan is a pioneer in the 5G area and is committed to the development of 5G technology.

Taiwan has become an important supplier of the world's information and communications technology (ICT) products due to its customer-oriented manufacturing capability and its advantages of low cost.

The summit aims to help Taiwan's industries tap into the next waves of business opportunities in the ICT technology sector and share cluster leadership in the 5G field along with Europe, the United States, Japan and South Korea, by establishing technology links with major international factories and deepening partnerships between Taiwan's ICT companies and international telecommunications operators to explore the opportunities that will arise with 5G.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has defined 5G network speeds as being 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps), with peak speeds of 20 Gbps.
